MISSION

Our mission is to inspire, educate & empower today’s youth to become global stewards of the Earth and guardians of the Oceans through service learning, visual arts & media.

OVERVIEW

In August of 2008, Daniell 'Danni' Washington, a graduate of the University of Miami (Double Major in Marine Science and Biology), entered and won first place in the nationwide ROXY 'Follow Your Heart' competition presented by Schick® Quattro for Women® a contest driven by the 'Follow Your Heart Tour' a 12-location tour intended to inspire girls to go after their dreams. This unbelievable blessing opened doors for her to reach out to young people in the community about ocean conservation in various ways. She used the funds acquired from the competition to start the 'The Big Blue & You' which is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that aims to inspire and empower today youth on the environment and the ocean through the arts, service learning and media. The Big Blue & You's various educational and hands-on events, programs and initiatives for children grades K-12 are able to present critical information about marine conservation in a fun and unique way. We strongly believe that children are the strategic medium to transport new ideas and information about protecting our blue planet to their parents, families and society as a whole.

Michelle Swaby and Danni Washington are a mother-daughter team that founded the Big Blue & You in 2008 with a unified vision to build a brighter future for our youth and the planet.
